Education & Experience

  • One year experience teaching ESL is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Excel

  • Previous cross-cultural experience required, preferably in a social service, development or educational setting

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ABILITIES

·     Ability to work with clients of diverse nationalities and cultures. 

·     Teaching experience and classroom management skills, particularly ability to teach a multi- level class and limited-English-proficient clients. 

·     Ability to supervise ESL instructors to ensure effective teaching methods and classroom management. 

·     Ability to integrate volunteers into program. 

·     Ability to multi-task 

·     Detail-oriented and organized 

·     Record keeping skills 

ESL Teaching 

  • Supervise a three-hour ESL class to recently-arrived refugees utilizing best-practice classroom management to foster an interactive, student-centered learning environment

  • Supplement and expand on the core ESL and Cultural Orientation curriculum to develop lesson plans that support both refugees’ language acquisition and social adjustment

  • Use own teaching experience to support the sharing and development of lesson plans, curriculum and classroom management ideas with other ESL teachers on staff

ESL Administration 

  • Ensure clients are enrolled properly in ESL upon their arrival

  • Administer formal and informal assessment tools to monitor student progress

  • Coordinate and support students, teachers, and volunteers in effective teaching so clients achieve English proficiency as soon as possible in their time of ESL attendance

  • Facilitate program administration, including data tracking and reporting

  • Maintain accurate record of client attendance; present weekly attendance reports

  • Maintain program supplies and order when needed

  • Utilize volunteer tutors and university interns to provide individual and small group tutoring sessions, oversee quality of training and materials provided, and find new ways to match volunteers to program needs

  • Run regular ESL Department meetings to disseminate information to teachers, and discuss ideas, concerns, or announcements from the teachers. Strive to keep everyone on track, and have a productive conversation each time

  • Develop and oversee summertime engagement programs for ESL students and families/children

  • See to the development of key support systems: Transportation and Child Care (these two areas are direct reports to the ESL Coordinator)

  • Other duties as assigned by Mosaic Campus Pastor

I.     OVERVIEW

The Student Ministry Director of Mosaic Church is responsible for the vision, administration, recruitment, supervision and leadership development for the Student Ministry program area.  The aim of the Mosaic Student ministry is to create an environment where students are an integral part in becoming a dynamic Mosaic of Jesus followers.  This person should have education, training, and experience in the field of Christian Education as well as demonstrated ability for reaching out to and connecting people who are new or “returning” to the church.  Multi-ethnic competency is a must. This is a part-time position.  The Family Ministry Director reports to and is evaluated by the Mosaic Campus Pastor.   

 

20 Hours/week

·     Proven track record of success in a paid, staff leadership position with a team

·     Track record of successful recruitment/equipping/deploying of paid and unpaid servants (volunteers)

 

     III.   MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops systems, in conjunction with the Family Ministries Director, that ensure safety in all regards to children, students and workers.  Following the APT policy and procedures as well as ensuring a secure check in/check out system. 

  • Recruits, employs, trains, evaluates Student Ministry leaders and builds healthy communication systems

  • Directs and coordinates the Student ministry, ensuring that qualified staffing exists for:

1. Life Groups

2. Retreats (Fall, Winter, Spring); Sexuality Retreat

3.Spring Break and Summer Mission experiences (Local, National, Global)

4.Fun/engaging events throughout the year (Hiking, Biking, Swimming, Canoeing, Concerts and the like)

5.Partner with Family Ministry Director to promote teen participation in leadership for Family/Kids Camp /VBS, Mosaic outreach events etc.

6. Engages the greater Mosaic congregation in strategic ways to safely support the spiritual development of students and families.

  • Works in conjunction with the Student Ministry team (and Family Ministry Director) to select curriculum and bible focused teaching tools

  • Monitors and ensures documentation of enrollment/attendance of the Student Ministry area for defined benchmarks (only for the purpose of connecting and tracking kids and families)

  • Creates, develops and gains approval for new programs which promote spiritual growth in students and families

  • Serves as resource person for worship programs and special seasonal events

  • Meets with Student Ministry Team leaders to plan for Children’s programming

  • Coordinates activities with the Essential Ministry Leadership Team of Mosaic Church

  • Keeps current on Student Ministry trends, attending conferences and continuing education programs as approved by the Mosaic Campus Pastor and/or Mosaic Board

  • Supports implementation of church-wide abuse policy in regard to children/families in Christian Education programs

  • Develops strong support systems for parents to help them become better equipped in discipling their children in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Provides pastoral visitation/counseling for children and families as needed

  • Ensures healthy and effective communication systems 6 levels = Mosaic Staff, Adult Team, Parents, Students, Mosaic Congregation and Community

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Mosaic Campus Pastor
